    Cloud computing

A new way to run your business and save money and the planet is by cloud computing. Everything from word documents to file storage is being moved from computer hard drives to the internet’s virtual storage space and software holding tank. In 2009, cloud computing is expected to reach $10.7 billion. Major computer hardware and software companies have already jumped on the cloud. Companies like Google, Amazon, Yahoo, HP and Intel have all invested in the cloud technology.

Serena Software, an Application Development and Business Software Company, who has switched from its Microsoft Exchange to Google’s Gmail are expecting a $750,000 annual savings. Many have already been using cloud computing without even knowing it. For instance, if you use a web based email system you have used cloud computing. Basically, it saves money because companies and small businesses don’t have to purchase licenses for each user and load the software onto each individual computer. Software is loaded onto a main server and the user logs in to do their work.

Below are ten cloud computing companies that may save you money.

    1.       Amazon- Elastic Compute Cloud, SimpleDB, CloudFront,Simple Queue Service and more
    2.       AT&T- Synaptic Hosting
    3.       Enomoly- Elastic Computing Platform
    4.       Google- GoogleApps, Postini and Google App Engine
    5.       Go Grid- Web based storage
    6.       Microsoft- Azure an Operating System
    7.       NetSuite- business software suite including e-commerce, CRM, accounting and ERP tools
    8.       Rackspace- Mosso webhosting, servers, and online storage.
    9.       RightScale- Management platform
    10.   Salesforce- CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tool

The best part is that cloud based computing is a far more green way of running applications. Therefore, you help the environment and your pocketbook.
